What is Paint Correction?

Car paint is exposed to natural elements such as bug strikes, bird droppings and tree sap. Other elements such as such as car washes, water spots, random isolated scratches and oxidation affect the car paint. Paint correction is a defect removal process to restore paint to a near showroom finish.

Modern car paint is made up of Clearcoat, Color, Primer and Base metal. Elements can attach to the paint and eat away at the clearcoat and can ultimately expose the base metal and allowing rust to form. Clearcoat is a layer of protection for the color, primer and base.

Paint Enhancement and Paint Correction are processes for removing imperfections in the Clearcoat and returning the paint to the deep gloss shine as when the vehicle was purchased. Removing the contaminants and scratches allows the Ceramic Coating to BOND to the Clearcoat providing an additional layer of protection.

Methods of Correction

Enhancement and Correction are two processes aimed at removing paint defects. The difference is Ehancement is a minor step while Correction is a major step. Both steps typically are done with a machine polisher.

Enhancement

Paint Enhancement is a quicker process of Polishing the paint and removing about 15% of blemishes and swirls followed up with a wax, sealant or ceramic coating to protect from further damage.

Correction

After the paint has been decontaminated, and the natural elements are removed, a Compound is used to remove heavy blemishes and paint swirls. This process removes 80% of the swirls and blemishes. Then, is followed up with a Polish to fine-tuned for more depth and shine followed up with a wax, sealant or ceramic coating to protect from further damage.
